As of October 1st, 2024, Harald Willumsen Østbø has officially taken the reins as the new Director of Bodø Lufthavnutvikling (BLU). With an extensive background in sustainable industries, particularly in the fields of green energy and waste management, Harald brings a wealth of experience to the organization. His leadership is expected to strengthen BLU’s position as a driving force behind sustainable aviation and innovation in Northern Norway.
A proven leader in sustainability
Before stepping into his role at BLU, Harald served as General Manager at Rå Biopark AS and worked as a business developer in green energy at Remiks Miljøpark AS, focusing on sustainable energy solutions such as district heating and biogas. His time as managing director at IRIS AS and Remiks AS also showcased his ability to lead initiatives in waste management and renewable energy – aligning perfectly with BLU’s mission of transforming the aviation industry towards greener alternatives.
Excited about the green aviation future
Upon starting his new position, Harald expressed his eagerness to delve into the projects already underway at BLU. “Before my current position, I was already paying close attention to the development in this project. I’m already reading myself up on the green aviation project, among other initiatives we’re involved in. Working with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is exciting, as it offers a key solution for reducing emissions and positions our region to become a leading producer in the future of aviation. The potential we have here in Bodø is incredible, and I can’t wait to contribute to the journey towards a greener, more sustainable future in aviation,” said Harald.
BLU’s green aviation project aims to make Bodø and Northern Norway a testbed for sustainable aviation technologies, with a strong focus on both reducing carbon emissions and creating new job opportunities in the region. This fits seamlessly with Harald’s personal and professional commitment to sustainable development.
Building a bright future together
Harald’s first day at BLU was marked by a warm welcome from the team, as he spent time familiarizing himself with his new colleagues and the ongoing projects. “The first day has been incredibly positive, with many new impressions and a great reception from the staff. I’m looking forward to getting to know the team better and pushing forward on all the exciting projects we have in motion,” he shared.
Harald’s leadership signals an exciting new chapter for BLU, as the organization continues to play a pivotal role in both local and international initiatives aimed at advancing green aviation.
