New Direct Route to Europe & Germany from Bodø in 2025: A Key Step for the Development of the Bodø Region and Northern Norway

Exciting news for the Bodø region as Bodø Airport will introduce a new direct route to Europe starting in the summer of 2025. This significant milestone strengthens Bodø’s position as a vital gateway to Nordland and will have a considerable impact on the local population throughout the region.

  • “This is excellent news for Bodø and the surrounding region. We owe a big thanks to Avinor and the Lofoten brand for increasing their focus on Bodø. The potential here is enormous, and it’s fantastic to see a direct route to Europe! This initiative opens up new opportunities and strengthens our connection to the rest of the world,” says Elnar Holmen, CEO.

Bodø is already a hub and the gateway to Nordland, strategically located at the heart of the region. This route comes as a result of the success seen in Lofoten and Evenes, and Holmen adds:

  • “It’s great that Bodø can benefit from Lofoten’s success. As a hub with connections to Lofoten and Helgeland, Bodø is an ideal point of entry for international travelers. Additionally, our success as the European Capital of Culture and the massive interest in Northern Norway and Bodø, especially during this record-breaking summer season, make this a game-changer for the Bodø region. This is a route that the business and tourism sectors have long dreamed of,” says Holmen.

The direct route to Europe will also have positive ripple effects on the local economy and tourism in the Bodø region. Holmen concludes by emphasizing the importance of this development:

  • “By working strategically with tour operators and international marketing, we can ensure greater success with more routes, including those in other parts of the season, such as winter. We look forward to welcoming more tourists and business travelers to the Bodø region. The ‘snowball is rolling,’ and I’m confident that more routes will follow if we continue to work strategically,” Holmen concludes.
